Example structures – Persuasive proposal

With a persuasive proposal, your task is to lead your readers to the conclusion or decision that you think is a win-win. Present your strongest options first and then the less favoured alternatives.

  • Introduction, background, situation, objectives, context – not everybody will already
    have this information
  • Criteria for the preferred solution including your ‘authority’ for making the recommendation
  • Method of evaluating the evidence
  • Where relevant, point out actions already taken in making progress compatible with your recommendation
  • Present your best option first – point out the benefits and also potential losses if the
    best option isn’t chosen
  • Then present alternatives, which are still satisfactory
  • Describe easy-to implement next steps to make the recommendation happen
